Costa Rica 2017
¡Hola, Amigos!
We spent a week in Guanacaste, Costa Rica at the Riu Resort and Hotel and had such a great time! Our week was filled with unlimited drinks in the pool, zip-lining through the rainforest, ATV rides through the jungle, fed wild monkeys, and our best friends getting married. We can honestly say that we are ready to go back and explore all that is Costa Rica. We want to experience the culture, the people who live there and the adventures that come with exploring the country. Staying at an all inclusive is wonderful and a lot of fun, but I think next time we go, we want to stay in places that really allow you to venture into local towns, try popular hikes, and eat true Costa Rican cuisine. If you haven’t been to Costa Rica yet, I highly suggest you start saving and get to booking your next adventure!
If you do venture there, here are a few tips from our trip:
Make sure to bring your bug spray…those bugs don’t mess around!
Don’t exchange your money. The conversion rate is high and the locals love American money. Most places we went to took a travel credit card as well.
Wear. Sunscreen. Even on the cloudy days, you’ll get fah-ried. Day one was cloudy and we paid for it the rest of the week.
Don’t overpack. We ended up wearing a lot of clothes a second time, mostly because we were at the pool!
Bring snacks! Yeah–we stayed at an all-inclusive, but not everything is open 24 hrs and we can get hangry, quickly. We ended up heading to a store to get chips.
Rent a car! Rent a car! Rent a car! If you like to explore the area and leave the resort, renting a car is a great decision! The roads aren’t great, but they’re not terrible either. We were able to leave whenever we wanted and it ended up being cheaper than the airport shuttle. **Don’t drive during the torrential down pours…we saw driveways completely washed out!**
Learn at LEAST basic or conversational Spanish before you go. Most of the people we met spoke some English, but not everyone. Even a simple Hola or Buenos Noches is a great start!
Bring water shoes or water proof hiking shoes if you’re planning on doing any hiking. Really, bring water proof anything if you plan on visiting during the rainy season!
Be adventurous. Go zip-lining, take a catamaran boat tour, snorkel, scuba dive, etc. This country is meant for outgoing experiences and adventures!
Forget about hair product and make up. The humidity is so high there that if you’re like me, your make up will sweat right off and your hair will be in the element of having a mind of its own.
