“After seeing a cargo van that some friends were converting into a camper van, I wanted one. I started doing some research. My husband is skilled enough to where we could build it out ourselves, but to be honest, we didn’t want to spend the time to do it, little by little. We wanted a Ram Promaster high roof, so next I started looking at companies that do the conversions. Looked like we would need to buy the van, then drive to California to have a “kit” installed. They were nice, but seemed very utilitarian and expensive. Then, I came across Safe + Sonder Vans online, and I literally fell in love! MICHIGAN is where we grew up, and we couldn’t wait to go and buy this van.

Liz and Allison create the most amazing, homey, beautiful camper vans! From the solid wood construction, craftsmanship, comfy bed, decor, every single detail is just gorgeous. We love the van vs an RV. We use ours all the time, constantly planning our next adventure. So exciting! And everywhere we go, people ask if they can see inside. Then, they ask how can they reach Alli and Liz, lol.

Our goal is to go see as many beautiful things in this country as we can! These women also have been available any time we have questions, and sort of feel like nieces to us now. I trust them 1000%! We love Lil Red!”

“Alli and Lizzie are the perfect combo. The skill sets they have in construction, communication, electrical, and practicality make this the perfect couple to build vans.( they are also fun!) They helped me realize that this crazy idea for me (at my age) of getting this van was more than okay! Everything about it made sense… It is really only because of them that I went for it! I visited them when they were selling one of their previous vans, Jackson, which by the time I got there it had already been sold. However, I was able to look at him, meet them, and realize that I wanted to put this next dream of mine in their hands. I really loved them, their enthusiasm and willingness to work with me. It was really pretty awesome and unlike what you can get today in a cookie cutter/make the most money business environment. I did not regret anything. In fact, in the middle of the build they asked me if I would like to have a little cubby on the side of the bed. It was such a wonderful surprise to have a cool addition and it was above and beyond what they needed to do with their time and energy . It was that extra touch that I loved in that they truly wanted my van to be the best it could be. In the end when I picked up “Aggie”, i had one of the nicest surprises of my life. I couldn’t have been more pleased with what they had done. The small unexpected details were endless. I told them I had 100% confidence in their ability and knowledge so they didn’t need to talk to me about small details of the build … Unlike most things in my life. It was absolutely amazing to see what they did. Alli and Lizzie are wonderful people, skilled at what they do, practical, and caring! I couldn’t be more pleased and give a higher recommendation. I know their hours are limited… So I hate to have them to overworked, but if you have the opportunity to have your van built by Allison and Lizzie…you will have NO regrets!”

“I’d like to share my search for a campervan and how Awesome Safe and Sonder made my van build for Ida Willow. I had been online looking for nearly a year then found Vanlifetrader.com and was looking at the builders on there and Safe and Sonder with their hiking boot and trees emblem caught my eye (turns out its actually a van with trees!).  I opened up their page and was like ‘Wow, these Ladies make a realistic floorplan, colorful decor and add lots of windows.’ I  reached out to them with a 45 Min phone call in the Hobby Lobby parking lot with questions about my wishlist, the vibe was friendly, happy and just a good gut feeling. These gals were willing to build a van to my specifications!! Finally a builder who wanted to work with me. Well it felt right so I told them Let’s do this, I want you gals to build my van. They communicated beyond my dreams on every littel step of progress, with design, colors and other major decisions. I gave them $10,000 on May 10th 2022 and flew in from Washington State on June 27th 2022 to drive my new chapter of life Adventure back home. “We had talked about a lake cabin or an RV for years. A cabin would tie us to one place and an RV seemed too big and expensive. Both would take more time to maintain then we wanted to spend. We had converted a van in a few decades ago with nothing much more than a platform bed and a couple extra seats and did a lot of exploring with it. We consider class B RVs but none of them quite fit our lifestyle. The few custom build sites we found had 18 months or more lead time. Then, we stumbled on Safe and Sonder Van’s website and reached out to Allie and Liz. Timing couldn’t have been better. They helped us find a van and their build schedule was flexible enough that we Kittery was designed and built out in just a few months. Allie and Liz listened to our hopes and dreams for Kittery and built the perfect van for us. We’ve had a few short trips with Kittery, and she has lived up to every expectation. “If you’re reading this, then you’re probably thinking about converting a basic cargo van into a dream on wheels and you’ve come to the right place! The idea to convert a van instead of buying a camper was first introduced to me in 2020. I spent years researching and following influencers on Instagram, many of whom had created their own vans and were living in them full time.
